About 4ABetterWorld
The idea of 4ABetterWorld was born on 17/04/2021, two months after I’ve been submitted to a second lumbar spine’s surgery, given that the first one has resulted in Failed Back Surgery Syndrome (FBSS).
By that tough time, I also had to deal with another adversity, transmitted by doctors, that my lumbar spine’s injury is permanent and irreversible, thus implying several physical limitations and a permanent disability for the professional activity I used to practice.
Limitations and disabilities that I’ve been softening with permanent and regular use of physiotherapy treatments and pain relief medication, although doctors say that, instead of getting better, the tendency is to get worse, with advancing age.
In this context of my personal life, I urgently needed, more than ever, to mentally overcome my physical disability and feel socially useful, helping those who need it most. That’s why I decided to put all my knowledge and professional experience at the service of humanitarian, social and environmental causes, as described in the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).
In my humble opinion, the most able to achieve these Goals are Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), as they better understand and have greater knowledge (on the ground) of the population’s needs as well as of the necessary means to meet them. However, unfortunately, they are also those that have greater financial constraints and, therefore, difficulty in financing their projects. The contacts that have been made with several Portuguese NGOs are illustrative of it.
So, at the beginning, I thought that a crowdfunding platform could solve this problem, but then I realized that this would involve a significant investment, namely with the necessary seed capital.
Therefore, and although I’ve continued to Think Big, I chose to start and Act Small, taking baby steps to ensure that the Project moved forward sustainably.
Thus, after registering the trademark, (which also had a series of obstacles due to a similar trademark registered by a German company, with which I had to come to an agreement), came the Design & Development of the Website, which had, fortunately, the support of a highly competent and professional team from an Indian IT company.
Now, I invite you to have a look at this website, as well as the projects that are underway, challenging you to support them and contribute to a real impact on the lives of those who need it most, thus making a difference.Please note and understand that, with this, I’m not talking about charity, in which we donate to a certain organization and, most of the times,we have to deal with the uncertainty of not knowing who the money went to. It is, rather, about supporting real, effective and determinant projects to guarantee a dignified and healthier life for those most in need.
In this regard, the famous quote applies: “Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.”
